Sub Seniors - Ages 12-14 Years

Stepping into senior training

The Sub Senior years mark an exciting transition in a dancer’s journey.

Students enter this stage with strong foundations behind them and a growing sense of confidence in their abilities. As they move into senior-level training, dancers are encouraged to challenge themselves, take greater ownership of their development and embrace new opportunities both inside and outside the studio.

This is often the age where students begin to discover the styles they love most, set personal goals and develop the discipline needed to achieve them.

While classes become more challenging, our focus remains the same: creating an environment where dancers feel supported, motivated and inspired to reach their full potential.

Jazz

Jazz classes focus on developing strong technical skills alongside dynamic performance quality.

Students work on advanced turns, leaps, flexibility, strength and choreography while learning how to perform with confidence and authenticity. Jazz encourages dancers to combine technical precision with personality and stage presence.

Hip Hop

Hip Hop allows students to explore a different style of movement while developing confidence, musicality and self-expression.

Classes are energetic, engaging and designed to encourage creativity while improving rhythm, coordination and performance skills.

Ballet

Ballet continues to play a vital role in every dancer’s development.

Students work on advanced technical concepts including alignment, strength, control, extension and artistry. Ballet classes challenge dancers to refine their technique while developing the discipline and consistency required for continued progression.

As students move through higher examination levels, ballet provides the foundation that supports every other style they study.

Acrobatics

Acrobatics develops advanced strength, flexibility and body awareness through progressive skill development.

Students work towards higher-level acrobatic skills while maintaining a strong focus on safe technique and conditioning. Acro supports overall dance training by improving physical capability and confidence in movement.

Tap

Tap training continues to develop rhythm, coordination and musical awareness through increasingly complex combinations and exercises.

Students learn to perform intricate rhythms with confidence while improving precision, timing and control. Tap challenges dancers to become both strong technicians and musical performers.

Contemporary

Contemporary classes encourage students to explore movement beyond technique.

Drawing on ballet foundations and expressive movement, contemporary helps dancers develop artistry, storytelling and emotional connection. Students learn to use movement as a form of expression while building versatility and creativity.

A New Level of Growth

As dancers progress through the Sub Senior program, training becomes more detailed and technically demanding.

Students are encouraged to think critically about their movement, apply corrections independently and refine the quality of their performance. They begin developing a deeper understanding of artistry, musicality and technique while continuing to strengthen their physical capabilities.

This stage is about building versatility, confidence and resilience as dancers prepare for the highest levels of training within the studio.

Developing Strong, Independent Dancers

The Sub Senior years are about more than technical progression.

Students are encouraged to take responsibility for their learning, set personal goals and develop habits that will support their continued growth. Teachers guide dancers through challenges while helping them build confidence in their own abilities.

Throughout this stage, dancers continue developing:

• Commitment and accountability

• Confidence and self-belief

• Strong technical foundations

• Artistic expression

• Leadership skills

• Resilience and perseverance

• Teamwork and respect

Many students begin to take on leadership roles within the studio, becoming positive role models for younger dancers and contributing to the supportive culture that BPA is known for.

Examinations and Achievement

Examinations become increasingly rewarding during the Sub Senior years as students work through higher levels of training.

Preparing for examinations teaches dancers the value of consistency, dedication and attention to detail while providing opportunities to celebrate their progress and achievements.

For many students, examinations become an important part of their journey as they continue striving towards their personal goals.

Performance Opportunities

Sub Senior dancers have access to a range of exciting performance opportunities throughout the year.

Students perform in our annual concert and may also participate in Performance Teams, competitions and community events. These experiences help dancers develop confidence, professionalism and stage presence while creating lasting memories with their teammates and friends.

Performance opportunities also allow students to apply the skills they have developed in class and experience the rewards of hard work and commitment.

Preparing for the Senior Years

The Sub Senior program bridges the gap between intermediate and advanced training.

By the end of this stage, dancers have developed stronger technique, greater confidence and a deeper understanding of their own capabilities. They are well prepared for the challenges and opportunities that await them in our Senior program.

Most importantly, they leave this stage with the confidence to back themselves, the resilience to tackle challenges and the skills to continue growing both as dancers and as young people.

How do I enrol my child?

    STEP 1

    Download Dance Studio Pro App

You can set up all of your child's classes and get your invoices all sorted in one place. When Downloading the app you will also receive an email with the link to login along with a temporary password.

    STEP 2

Let's get your parent portal set up!

You can set up all of your child's classes and get your invoices all sorted. If your child's classes aren't already in your portal you can search and find your preferred classes in the class section of the app. Weekly direct debit payments are taken out on Thursdays the week before your classes. To enrol in auto pay you will need to go to the more section of your app and then click into auto-pay and fill in your preferred card details.

You will have your $50 registration fee in your portal that will be charged on the first Thursday of your direct debit.

Do I need to enrol for each class separately?

Yes. Each class must be enrolled.

This keeps class numbers accurate and ensures we staff classes correctly.

I have more than one child. Can I enrol them together?

You can add multiple children under the same Parent Portal, but:

    • Each child must be enrolled separately

    • Each class must be checked out separately

    Are classes capped?

Yes. All classes have strict capacity limits for safety and quality.

When a class reaches capacity, enrolments close.

Interested in joining our dance family?

We have students travel from Berrinba, Crestmead, Browns Plains, Marsden, Springwood, Algester, Underwood, Meadowbrook, Sunnybank Hills, Loganholme, Logan and surrounding areas to join our adult and kids dance classes.

  • How are fees paid?

From 2026, BPA Dance Studio fees are paid by weekly automated direct debit only.

    Why weekly direct debit?

    Weekly payments help:

    • Avoid large invoices

    • Keep accounts up to date automatically

    • Reduce missed payments and manual follow-ups

    • Keep payments smaller and easier to manage

Can I pay another way (cash, bank transfer, term invoices)?

No. Weekly direct debit is the only payment method.

What happens if a payment fails?

You will receive an automatic notification. Please update your details as soon as possible.

If missed payments are not resolved, this may lead to late fees and/or a pause on class attendance until the account is up to date.

Will we be charged on public holidays?

The studio will be closed and class will not run on public holidays so families will not be charged for any public holidays in that same direct debit week.

Do we need to purchase uniform and shoes?

Students must wear the Ready Set Dance uniform. However, we need to make sure we are the right fit for you and your child before committing to anything. Comfortable clothes and sneakers are fine for the first couple of lessons. Once your child has settled you can purchase the official Ready Set Dance uniform at reception which we are sure you will love.

    Is uniform required?

Yes. All students must wear the official BPA uniform for their class style

    Where do we purchase uniforms?

Uniforms are purchased through the studio. We offer:

    • Sizing help during office hours

    • Special uniform weeks (announced ahead of time)

    Are costumes included in fees?

    No. Costumes are charged separately.

Costume information and due dates are provided well in advance so families have time to plan.

  • What happens if I miss classes due to injury, illness, or surgery?

    Injury & Extended Absence Policy

If you are unable to attend classes for an extended period (4 or more consecutive weeks) due to sickness, injury, or surgery, you may be eligible for special consideration.

    To apply, you must:

    • Provide written notice outlining your situation

    • Submit a valid medical certificate covering the full period of absence

    • Notify us at the time of the incident to be considered for a possible fee waiver

Requests are assessed on a case-by-case basis.

What if my child is injured or unwell?
Please tell the teacher (or notify the office) before class.
Student safety comes first. We will modify activity where needed, or recommend rest if appropriate.
If unwell, stay home and contact us.

If we miss a class can it be made up on another day of the week?

You may swap days during Terms 1, 2 and 3 if you miss a class (as long as the make up class is not full). In term 4, each class works on a different routine for the end-of-year concert, and it is too confusing for students to be swapping days. We do recommend that you avoid alternating days too much as preschoolers need the comfort of knowing that the same teacher and their friends will be there when they go to dancing.

What happens if my child misses a class?

We understand things come up. However, missed classes are not refundable and cannot be transferred to another student or term.

    Do you offer make-up classes?

Make-up classes are not guaranteed. If available, they depend on:

    • Class capacity

    • Age and level suitability

    • Timing within the term

What happens with unforeseen weather conditions/Public Holidays?

We will notify parents of any studio closures due to wild weather conditions or any public holidays where we will not be open in advance.

  • How will I receive studio updates?

    We communicate through:

    • Email

    • Parent Portal notifications

    • Studio social media (reminders only)

Please keep your contact details up to date in your Parent Portal to avoid missing important info.

Who do I contact with questions?

For enrolments, fees, uniforms, timetables, or general admin, please contact the studio office.

Teachers cannot discuss admin matters before or after class because they are supervising students and preparing for lessons.

  • Behaviour expectations

We expect all students to show:

    • Respect

    • Kindness

    • Teamwork

If behaviour becomes unsafe or repeatedly disruptive, we may contact a parent and, if needed, remove the student from class to maintain a safe learning environment

Can I watch my child’s classes?

In our experience preschoolers are able to concentrate better without the distraction of other noise in the room from parents and other siblings. Our program has been endorsed by leading child care experts who support the independent learning model. As preschoolers participate in classes they have the opportunity to develop additional secure attachments with adults (teachers) and peers. This helps them transition positively into the larger world and helps with school readiness.

Having said that, a lot of children are timid at first and need to know that a parent is close by. Our program allows parents to watch the first class if necessary to help them adjust.

    Can parents watch classes?

We run scheduled Watch Weeks during the year. Outside of these weeks, classes are closed to:

    • Reduce distraction

    • Support student focus and confidence

    • Keep classes running smoothly

    What is watching day?

Watching day is where parents get to view their child dance as an audience in the classroom. It’s a chance for your child to begin their first step to working on their performance skills.

    What about hair and shoes?

Requirements vary by style and level. Full details are provided after enrolment so you know exactly what to buy and how to wear it for class.

  • Do all students participate in concerts?

Our end-of-year concert is a key part of the BPA experience and is strongly encouraged for all students.

    Are concerts compulsory?

    Not compulsory, but highly encouraged.

Classwork and choreography are taught with performance in mind, so students get the most out of the year by participating.

    Do students do exams?

Exams may be offered for selected styles and levels.

    • Exams are usually optional

    • Some programs or levels may require exams and we will clearly advise you if that applies

What are the pre-requisites for competition team?

Students from 6 years and up are offered the opportunity to perform as a member of our eisteddfod team. Competition Team is an extension program offered to those who excel and participate in a minimum of 4 genres (for 6-11years) and a minimum of 6 classes (12 years and up) must be participated in per week with 2 of theses classes being ballet. The Performance Team participates in various dance competitions/eisteddfods, community events and charity events. Performance team is for those students who demonstrate a high level of commitment, skills, and dedication to their dance studies. This program is developed for students who wish to live and breathe dance and build the important skills of performing. Each performance builds confidence, performance skills, stage presence, team work and a determination to succeed.

  • Are your teacher’s qualified?

All teachers have their Working with Children Check (or equivalent) and follow the program that is endorsed by early learning experts. Ready Set Dance teachers are required to gain their certification from Ready Set Dance head office before delivering the program.

  • How can I experience Ready Set Dance at home?

Ready Set Dance airs on Nick Jr and Paramount Plus. You can also catch us on YouTube and the Nick Jr Play App. The Show has been so popular that it is now airing in 120 countries all over the world. Preschoolers love to dance along to their favourite songs from the TV show in their classes every week.
